1) The ability to automatically save on exit without a prompt and/or the ability to automatically save after every change.

2) The ability to remember where in the list you were on either save or exit. (either way works)

3) The ability to turn on and off inputboxes, etc. on the right and the ability to rearrange them.
(This would make manual entry better, I see where you are going with the HTML templates for viewing them, but it would be neat to be able to have html templates for entry too)

1. Could be quite dangerous, no? It could indeed be an option that the file is automatically saved at each change but the problem is that if images are stored in the catalog the saving can take few seconds :/

2. You mean which movie was selected? It could be (at least for the last used catalog), but it would be stored in program preferences rather than in the catalog itself.

3. Leaving user customize these fields is not easy. If I add HTML for viewing, I will probably also make it available for editing, as it is not much more difficult.

1) I can see how it could be semi-dangerous on each change and how it could be kind of slow. On exit isn't dangerous though, it would actually save me some time because normally each time I exit I am clicking Yes to save changes each time. Of course this should just be a preference disabled by default.

2) The last selected movie would work just fine. Actually I like that idea better then what I had suggested.

3) Nice, yeah html templates for editing and viewing would be amazing.

One more or less related suggestion : An optional time based autosave while AMC is running would be nice (5/10/xx min). But I don't know if it's a risk for the few people who mentioned problems with losing some films after saving, same with autosave on exit/edit (like viewtopic.php?t=3643 ). Perhaps the catalog backup file (.bak) should only be updated when saving manually, not on autosave.

Does it take you so many time to click on "Yes"? :D

Autosave could be time-based indeed, but there is still the problem of the time taken by the saving process.

Saving for me is instantaneous.

If it's optional and disabled by default though, save on exit wouldn't hurt anyone though. For me it would be really nice not to have to click on save. I migrated from a bad program called EMDB which didn't require me to save. (thankfully I found ant movie catalog... phew) Just thinking about it though, every time I exit the program right now I am saving anyway so it won't add any extra time for anyone who doesn't want to use it and like I said it wouldn't add any extra time for me at all as it is instantaneous.

Another great function would be if the movies could be grouped multiple times: Like group by : media type then media label then checked, so we could see the list as a tree-hierarchy

This kind of multiple groups will probably be added when I'll replace the list component used.

I could indeed add a auto-save option for people that have a small catalog file (and so for who the saving process is instantaneous).

So both are on my to-do list, but I can't say when these features will appear.

EMDB supports export to CSV, so you should be able to export your database to a .csv file and then import it into AMC (> File > Import > CSV).
