[REQ] Batch Editing Feature

Post by Lemaireus »

Is it possible to add batch editing for sections like "Category," "Source," and "Certification"?

This becomes useful in cases such as this: for example, I started with a category 'Thriller' and gradually that folder swelled up to 500 movies. At that stage I felt that perhaps I should split that folder further into 'Action', 'Crime Drama', 'Supernatural Thriller' and 'Thriller' with roughly 100-125 movies in each category. If we had batch editing for "Category" I could have changed my classification in the catalog in less than five minutes. To reclassify each title individually takes a really long time. Batch editing would be most useful in the "Category" section. [I had to similarly split up my 'Comedy' folder into 'Action Comedy', 'Black Comedy', 'Comedy', 'Crime Comedy', 'Sex Comedy', and 'Teen Comedy.' More folders will go down the same path as the collection grows.]

Similarly for source: the change from DVD-rips to Blu-rays or WebHD or UHD4K is another area in which batch editing would be useful.

And finally certification: this is a new entry in AMC 4.2.0.2. If batch editing was available one could fill in the relevant data in this box really quickly.

Any ideas on whether it is possible to introduce this feature in the next version of AMC?

Hi,

There are differents ways to do batch editing of movie fields.

A/
1- Make changes on a movie (e.g. replace "Thriller" by "Action" in field Category)
2- Copy this movie
3- Select the movies where you want to apply the sames changes for one or multiple fields
4- Paste the movie on selected movies and select only the fields where you want to paste the same value (e.g. field Category)
5- Finish

B/
1- Select the movies where you want to change a value in a field
2- Go in scripting window (Shift+F6) and select the script UpdateFields
3- Make sure you choose option "selected" in movies to include and run the script
4- Choose script option such as "Replace a field" to replace field value or "Replace a word" to replace a word by another (e.g. replace "Thriller" by "Action")
5- Finish

C/
- Same as B point but you make your one script to do exacty what you want or you use another script ;).

D/
- Maybe in a furure version I will add possibility to edit the fields of multiple movies in the same way as movie extras.
