Problems with AMC after PC Re-Installation

Need Help: After a PC re-installation (laptop/xp-system) something goes wrong with amc. I had 5 archive-files in the catalogue folder and now only can open 4. The 5th was my main archive with about 4000 film entries: the opening window says: <unable to load file "D:\Programme\Ant Movie Catalogue\Catalogue\Filme-DVD.amc"; Cannot identify the file type from header>.
I even tried an older version of amc, but same effect.
What might have gone wrong or what may be missing. Has someone an idea. Thanks for help

Do you have a .bak file in the same folder? If so you could try to rename it to .amc and open it.
Or else, try open the catalog with a text editor / hexadecimal editor to see what is the contents of the beginning of the file, see what header is there (or if the contents is gone)
