Can't get started

I have just loaded the program and I want to start cataloging my dvd's but nothing I do Click File or Open will find my movies.
I can get to the files but nothing shows up. They are there I can click on them and play them.
Can someone please step me through the process of cataloging my first dvd movie?

file -> open is to open catalogs, not movies.
Did you read the help file? There is some basic info on how use the program
