New Field for HDR Information

Most new UHD 4K blu-rays are coming out with Dolby Vision as the HDR format and relatively fewer with HDR10+. For those such as myself, moving their collections from SDR HD encodes to HDR formats in UHD resolutions, it has become essential to keep track of the HDR format in which the compressed encode is stored on the hard drive, to avoid repeat encodes of the same file. One would happily re-encode a plain HDR UHD rip to a Dolby Vision HDR UHD rip, but there is little point in, for example, re-encoding a Dolby Vision Profile 7.6 file if one already has a Dolby Vision Profile 8.1 encode of the same movie.

Mediainfo clearly and completely reads all the formats, so it would be wonderful if an upcoming version of Ant Movie Catalog could add a new field for HDR information in the file information rows. The best place for HDR information would be right between the 'Video Format' and 'Audio Format' rows towards the bottom.

It should not, I hope, be too difficult to incorporate this new field. Antoine, it would be great to have your thoughts on this or, better still, if you would please add this to the 'to do' list for the next release, or request any of the others who might have the requisite expertise for the job to do the needful.

The to do list is so huge already, and I don't work much on the program since years now, except the necessary maintenance to keep it running.
This seems a rather specific data, and adding new standard fields is some work.
You could use a custom field for that, I suppose?
What could then more easily added is to map that info from Media Info to a custom field that as a predefined name/tag.
But I don't know when/if I would find time for that along all the other things I should do on the program.

Antoine, I had tried taking the custom field route (Tools>Mange Fields>New Field . . .) but I couldn't figure out how to get that field to import the relevant section from the "HDR Format" line of Mediainfo.

Also, since HDR really is the key difference between HD and UHD, I think importing HDR information would remain vital for a movie catalogue. May be this feature request could be added in the bucket list of Ant Movie Catalog's next version, as and when/if you find the time for that development. Perhaps someone else who knows AMC's code well might help.

In the meantime, if someone can show me a way of importing the information in the "HDR Format" line of Mediainfo to a custom field, I could probably use that to plug the gap in AMC that has been created by the introduction of HDR.

Thanks for the info about the line to use, it will help to add it.
Unfortunately adding it will require a change in the program itself, so in the meantime the custom field has to be filled manually.

Antoine, since you are updating the installer, is there a chance that you might work on some of the many update requests which have been pending for a long time now? Yes, I understand that you rarely actively work on the catalogue these days but the suggestion of a new install package awakened the hope that you might do more than merely integrate the IMDB script. I am referring specifically to adding a new field for the HDR format information: anything that allows Dolby Vision (FEL or MEL) (profile 7.6 or 8.1) / HDR 10+ to be imported from the media file would help hugely. Thank you!

Just updating the install package for new scripts is really different than modifying the program.
And adding fields has a lot of implications, so I won't add just one quickly like that.
As I said, you'll probably have to stick to the custom fields for now

Yes, Antoine, I understand that. But I would appreciate it if you would please keep the request in mind for the next major update, whenever you might do that, because HDR format has become a vital differentiator as many of us are upgrading our libraries to UHD.

HDR is on my to do list, so in the next update of the program itself I'll probably add the option to put it in a custom field automatically from the media info line you mentioned (since adding that is easy)
But a dedicated field is probably too specific, and requires much more changes.
