Importing comments with IMDB Script

Post by wolfman142 »

My AM Catalog has suddenly stopped importing data to the "comments" section of an entry when applying the IMDB script. I have version 4.029 of the IMDB script. It came out on September 7, 2024.

Does anyone else have this problem? Is it the script? Do I have the newest one?

Or have I perhaps failed to properly set an option or options in the AM Catalog itself? In the "modifiable fields" section of the scripting box, I have checked the "comments" box. Is there something else I have to check to instruct the Catalog to import comments from IMDB?

Presently, I am copying and pasting comments from the internet in order to include a few comments with each new entry. That is cumbersome. I would rather the catalog do it automatically.

Any help gratefully received.

Probably something that changed on the site and that should then be fixed in the script.
I'll try to check in the next days when I have time, but if someone else can check it may be faster :)

Yes, I have the same problem. I hope it is not something complicated. Thanks.

At first sight, it seems that the HTML of the reviews page has completely changed, so it is not a quick fix.
Probably not very difficult to rewrite, though.

Script updated as v4.030, I hope it will work with all movies (I did not test a lot)
It was not as quick as just changing a line, but in the end it was not too much work either.

Thank you, Antoine. I catalogued four movies today. AM Catalog reliably retrieved reviews from IMDB and placed them in the "comments" section for each entry.

I haven't tried others, but I suspect your catalog is the best of all the movie catalogs out there. Thank you for your continuing effort to keep the catalog up-to-date and working.

I have 6000 movies/TV series. Will I watch them all in my lifetime? Probably not. Scratch that-- definitely not. But this compulsive collector appreciates the ability to keep track of what he's collected, including details such as reviews.

I cannot download the comments section from IMDB. I can see on these posts that there has been an update to fix this - however I have version V4.233 which is the latest download that I can find. How do I fix this?

You mean the version of the program (AMC) I suppose?
The script itself can be updated to a newer one. The script's latest version is 4.030 (the number is displayed at the bottom when you select the script in the list).
You can update it by running the script named "Update scripts", at the top of the scripts list.

Yes I was referring to the program version not the script.
However I am new to this App and I cannot follow your instructions.
I did find a list of scripts and clicked one at the top named "update Scripts" but couldn't see any version nunber displayed.
The latest movie added has no description.
Could you please be more specific on the instructions.
Thanks.

When you select "IMDb", at the bottom of the window there is a panel with some info, including the version of that specific script.
Then if you need to update it, you can run the "Update script": it will show you the list of scripts for which an update is available.
