Hello,
I have a complete catalogue of 700 movies. I was using it without any problem for a long time. Recently, I can not open the catalogue, I get error message "Cannot identify file type from header". Renaming .dat file did not help. It is AMC 4.2.2 on my computer. Earlier, I had the same problem, but I dont remember how it could be solved (maybe saving the whole database in earlier amc format). I even tried to delete AMC 4.2.2 and download AMC 3.5 version, but could not. Please somebody help me, I do not want to register all the 700 movie again from the beginning.
Is there any other movie catalogue programs, which can use .amc format imported?
Cannot identify file type from header
Re: Cannot identify file type from header
Hi,
That error can occur in two cases:
- corrupted file
- trying to open with an old version a file made with a newer version (so trying with version 3.5 won't help, as for sure it would give this message when opening a catalog made by version 4.2)
When you mention a .dat file, you mean the .bak file?
It is the copy of the catalog from the previous save, so it is strange that it would be corrupted too.
You can try to submit me the file via https://ks3c.antp.be/upload.php so I can check if I see something special in it.

Re: Cannot identify file type from header
Dear Site Admin,
Thank you for your intention to help me. During the years, I am sure, I saved the file in 3.5 and in 4.2.2 as well. In the last years, I used only one version, I think it was 4.2.2. A week ago, it worke without problem, then suddently this error message. Today, I downloaded 3.5, tried to open database, but has this error message. Then, deleted 3.5, downloaded 4.2.2, but I still have the same error message.
I am in despair, I am so sad. I dont want to loose my database. This a a wonderful program!
I uploaded my file to the URL you provided me.
Thank you for helping me. Please explain to me what to do, what to download.
Kind regards,
Melinda

Re: Cannot identify file type from header
That file is completely empty (all bytes set to 0) so there is unfortunately no content in it. I don't know how it become corrupted like that.
I don't know what else you could do, if the .bak file does not work better when renamed to .amc, and if you do not have any backup copies that you made, there is nothing else to do I suppose...
