Newbie here on this board... be gentle.. lol
After having to put in a new power supply and re-install Windows XP (Home Ed.) I am finally almost back to normal. Albeit, I screwed up and forgot to save anything (100+ movies) in the Movie Catalog...
I put in some searches for this board to find out, for those of us who have huge hard drives and broadband connections

Yes, some of the files are huge, yes it makes no sense to a lot of people to do such a thing....LOL However, plodding through the IMDB is time consuming... Entering and trying to find names of the "right" movies is always fun too.
My thinking is that if you have the database set up right, you can do a query to see what movies you own. One of my biggest fears is duplicating what I own. Especially if have lots of movies and just don't remember if I have it. Once you break the wrapper and/or seal it's yours.
If you were going to rely just on the IMDB for all the information and had a way to quickly import any new movies (or just re-download their updated text files) you would have an offline database which you can manipulate the way you want it. It would be great to say list every movie John Wayne was in and that little asterisk beside some titles means you have it. Then you can know for sure what's available and what you have.
I guess I am a database hound who would rather have stuff locally on my system rather than online. IMDB for one, doesn't tell me if I have the movie, but the entire IMDB database inside the Movie Catalog would be so much easier.
I understand that is what the Movie catalog is for, having just entries of what I own. Going the step beyond so I can query a movie "actor" and find out what else he is in would be a great thing too. Can't do that with only "owned" movies in the Movie Catalog. I guess the search/query could be almost limitless.

Just a thought and wondering if anyone has tried this?

Chuck
