Problem exporting XML file
Problem exporting XML file
hi
I've been using AMC for several years now and I would like to be able to use/share my catalogue (3.761 entries included covers) with Movie Collectorz, Filmotech or Movienizer just to give it a try and see how interesting these alternative softwares may be.
But exporting my Database to XML format results in a big error when trying to import it afterwards in ALL these softwares.
I first thought the problem was due to inconsistencies or errors in my database but I gave it another try by exporting the "demo" database provided with AMC (Sample_3.5.1.xml).
The problem is the same. There is no third party software accepting to import the XML-file generated by AMC.
Until now, I have not been able to use my database with any other program and I'm stuck with AMC.
It's a great product - of course - but I don't like the idea of facing a lack of flexibility.
Any information regarding this XML error ?
Thank you

Re: Problem exporting XML file
Hi,
AMC's XML is for its own use: these is no general universal format/schema defined for interchanging information between movie cataloguers
AMC does not have export feature to one of these programs, and if these do not have option for importing AMC data, there is no easy way.
Maybe you will have more luck using CSV, which is more basic and more often used for interchanging info.

Re: Problem exporting XML file
hi,
Thank you for the quick reply
Now it's clear
I will try with a CSV exportation, as suggested.
Actually I am really happy with AMC as it is but +I would appreciate an APP version for Android so that I can have access to my database anywhere and anytime.
MovieCollectorz offers both versions, that's why I wanted to convert my database in order to be able to use it with the Collectorz application.
I also wanted to have a look at the other softwares just by curiosity ... but XML failed as explained. Now I know why.
cheers

Re: Problem exporting XML file
Hi there, I've got similar problem, Is there any hope, that exporting my database to XML format will be added in a newest versions of AMC?
Re: Problem exporting XML file
As I said above, there is no "standard XML" for that.
Each program has its own format.
AMC could have an option to export to the formats of other software, but I don't really see the point of that: usually software often conversion from the format of their competitors, no to their formats
Otherwise there is still the generic text/CSV (via Excel possibly) options, as these are more easy to interface.

Re: Problem exporting XML file
Hello
I'm having problems creating an xml file to procced to some changes for some movies as it gives me this message "out of memory while expanding memory stream"
I use to do it normally with no problem, but I formated my PC lately and I don't know what would have caused this.

Re: Problem exporting XML file
Maybe one of the entries cause that problem?
If it is the case, you can try exporting half of the list. If it works try the other half.
Once you have the half that cause the problem, repeat it with both halves of that half, etc.
That should quickly narrow down the culprit movie entry.
If it is not related to one entry, I don't really know however what could cause that

Re: Problem exporting XML file
Thanks
I have been trying different films one by one but the problem it's the same. Now, it's the script allociné wich is giving me a headache as it's giving me IOHandler value is not valid.
This problem happens to me everytime I format my PC but I forgot how I fixed it.

Re: Problem exporting XML file
All my apologies for whomever tried to help me.
I fixed the problem which was due to the fact that "all movies" was checked, wich I just noticed lately.
As for the allociné script, it has been modified today.

Re: Problem exporting XML file
It should not give an error though, but maybe there were just too many data then (probably a bug somewhere that cause a problem for high volumes of data)
Indeed I fixed the Allociné script yesterday viewtopic.php?p=52978#p52978

Indeed there were too many data, more than 3300 movies and it stopped at the half around 1600.
