file/folder not there??

Post by Ant316 »

I have an issue since moving to win10. Im not sure but Im posting in bug report incase this a bug.

I Have saved my catalog file C:\Program Files (x86)\Ant Movie Catalog\Catalogs\MyMovies1.

The issue is when I use win10 file explorer and go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Ant Movie Catalog\Catalogs\ there is no MyMovies folder at all??
But when i open Ant Movie cat program and browse to it the file and folder are there as normal??

What is going on I cant fins why this is happening. Surely if I save inside the programe I should be able to find the saved file/folder using the win explorer like i have down in the past with win xp, win vista and win7.
Any help would be great thanks.

It is not a good idea to store files in program files: by default since Vista programs don't have write permission there, so windows actually redirect files to the virtual store folder, to make the program believe it could write its files.
If you didn't had that problem in Vista/7 it means you disabled UAC or changed permissions on the program folder.
But it is better to use other folders (e.g. Documents) to write data files.

The virtual store can be found in C:\Users\<yourname>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore
By default since one of the 4.x version AMC stores all its config/data files in C:\ProgramData and the catalogs in the Documents.

Excellent :) that worked like a charm. Really good information I never new about the virtual store at all, Im now just using "My Documents" as my save location.
Thanks again
