All Movie Guide Script Update Request

Post by Lemaireus »

Kalim, it's always you and me with the AMG script update request ;-) Once again it seems that allmovie.com has undergone some changes and the All Movie Guide script is not working anymore.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

Well, it's a little unusual but it's been a week since an update request for All Movie Guide script was posted but nothing has come up thus far :( Guess everyone's having a busy time.

Would someone please take out some time to get the script going again?

Be patient, it may be that there is a lot of work with it. Are you going to do one.
It was a very good script, I've always used it. Missing. But we are excited to get ready.
Thank you very much in advance.

If I knew how to do it, I certainly would have worked on it. I'd be happy to learn if someone can instruct me on what needs to be done.

My feeling is that probably no one's noticed the message yet: the last version of the script was done by Raoul, and that was then perfected by Antoine when he had helped me with updating certain elements in my catalogue. I hope one of them notices and can find the time to help us out.

Hi guys,

After a quick look, it seems that the script has to be completely rewritten.
Sorry guys, but i have no time to do this :(.

I partially rewritten research part of the script and recovered some info (Title, Year, Lenght, Country, Certification, Note, Director, Synopsis) I've already done more than I wanted to do ... If someone wants to continue ... there is much to do

This is also a great help, thank you.
Maybe now someone, who will finish this script.

Thanks, Raoul, for getting some parts of the script going. But too many sections are still coming in empty. Can someone please help? Or point me in the direction of a tutorial on how to do scripts?

Would look forward to hearing from someone.

All Movie Guide is a major script, Kalim, so surely someone or the other would work on it at some point. I did a bit of googling as well, in the hope of finding an updated AMG script in alternate cataloging programs and the two I found are struggling with the same issue because of the nature of the changes on the AMG website. There are people who have offered to help the users on one of those sites, but that won't be of help to us because their scripts run in .psf format. I tried running that script in Ant in all sorts of ways but it didn't work. However, if one the script writers wishes to look at that script I'd be happy to upload it.

The point, though, is that being a major script someone in our forums should, and in time perhaps would, be able to find the time to help out AMG users. So let us wait in hope.

I found a little time and take a look to AllMovie Guide.
I don't use it and I don't have so much time but maybe I could help in correcting the script if you can tell me what are fields needed.
I only see the lack of:
Actors,
Category,
Imagine,
Producer

any other?
:??:

All Movie Guide V 0.7.7

Post by Raoul_Volfoni »

Hi guys,

NO you're not alone in this cold world ;)

I worked a "little" bit and I completed some parts of the script.

Retrieve : Translated Title (alternate title), Category (Genres, Sub Genres), Picture, Review, Producer (Released by, Produced by), Actors.
Fix : Problem with description

Still Composer and Writer fields, Staff and Awards (in comments field) to retrieve. Next update in the next days from now as soon as i can. So be patient guys.

Very well!
I just now achieved your same results and, even before testing your new release I'm sure it is very very good.
I stop myself,
GO ON, Raoul!

Thank you, Raoul, you're the savior once again! I just ran the script and it seems to be working fine for the fields you have mentioned. Eagerly waiting for the remaining fields to be done and will then do a thorough beta report ;)

Thank you to Fulvio as well for offering to help: All Movie Guide has a way of changing almost every year. I seriously hope they don't do that anymore, and that we don't need any more help, but if we do then it's always nice to know there is another person along with Raoul who is there. Raoul is doing this the second time, and this time he seems to have had to work from scratch!

Looking forward to 0.7.8; thanks again, and cheers :grinking:

Raoul, one suggestion while you are still at work on the script: AMG has a section titled 'Characteristics' in the 'Overview' tab, just below the synopsis. Importing those 'Characteristics' into the 'Description' field, after synopsis, would work very well. Would you please include that as a feature request for v 0.7.8?

Also, it would be nice to have 'AMG SYNOPSIS:' before the synopsis, just as 'AMG REVIEW:' precedes the review.

Thanks again for helping out :)

:hihi: ... I told you that i have no time and you give me more work ... Moreover your request is tricky because those characteristics are not the same a movie to another. What am i supposed to retrieve ? I can try to catch all this block but it's not going to be good looking. So for 0.7.8 version, I will focus on what already exists ;)

That's an easy one to do ;)
