Lost DATA but...

Post by cmdunic »

Hi,
I lost a lot of data on my last save, passing from 2400+ to 1109 movies. Since I sync automatically all my computers every night, all my backups are corrupted!
BUT...
It seems data might not have been totally lost. Taking a look at the file, I can see that it is still about the same size as before, about 225 megs.
I think data is still there but unreadable for some reason...also, I can see a bug in loading at 43% of the file, the same happening on each of the 3 sync computers...
Anyone knows how we could recover the data???

Thanks everyone. There is a lot of time spent in the creation of that file...

Is the *.bak file corrupted, too ? Else try renaming it to your catalog's extension .amc or .xml.

Since I backup three computers every night, I deactivated the backup option on every computer. Never heard of the present issue before...

In some rare cases people got corrupted files, but no-one could never reproduce the problem :/ I do not know what cause it.
If the file still has its original size, using an hexadecimal editor it is usually possible to try to recover the part of the catalog located after the corrupted point by appending it to an empty catalog, but it is tedious work (though that it may be done in less than 1h)

This is quite interesting, but I'm not sure I will be able to find the right point. How can I do that?

Thanks for your advices.

Well you have to find up to which movie the program loads (i.e. search for its title), then search for the next movie in the file. Copy data from this movie until the end of the file and append it to an empty catalog (i.e. which has just the header). The format of movie records is described in help file.
As I do not know your computer skills I do not know if such info is enough or not :D

Thanks. I did something similar many years ago to recover a midi file for musicians. Which editor do you recommend to do the job? (if I understand right...english isn't my native language)

Thanks again. ASAP, I will publish the results here to let people know how to recover their files too(if it works :hihi: ).

Hi,

Additionnal infos for everyone.

It will not work for me. It seems file is full of data through the end but everything is totally scrambled, and I cannot find a single word after the 1109th file. Even "dvd" couldn't be found.

I really cannot figure out what happened to the file... :badidea:

Thanks for your help anyway!

Cmdunic.
