Printing issues

Post by Melmoth »

Hi everybody,

whenever I want to print movie lists some words look very strange, the letters are one on top of another or there are spaces where they don't belong... this happens when printing with a real printer or with a (virtual) PDF printer. If I copy and paste those jammed words (from the PDFs of course) they keep all the odd spaces. And the printing template or any format options do not have any (positive) effect, as well as changing the font (which is Arial by default).

This is how it looks like after copy and paste:
Sci ence- Fi c t i on
Did somebody else notice this oddity or find a solution?

Thanks in advance,

Melmoth

That's weird...
which PDF printer did you use?
does it happen even with some of the basic templates provided with the program?

Maybe it could be related to the printer set as default one in Windows, or even to the printer set as default one for the template (in template options, in the report designer)

The virtual printer is called "PDF Creator" (http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator) and the real one is a Canon machine set as default...

I know that PDF virtual prints may be jammed sometimes, but with a real one I never had such an issue in any other program.

Another weird thing is that this happens most of the time, but not every time, it happens with short lists, long lists, built in templates and own ones, long words (more likely) and short words, sometimes almost every word is affected and sometimes only a few, and you can provoke (in 99%) it by zooming in at the preview window (clicking "page width" or "whole page" etc.), and even if the (unzoomed) preview looks all right the print may be jammed.

It is a really, really strange thing as you can see, and it is somewhat a pain in the neck. Fortunately the rest of AMC works perfect! :grinking:

Oh, and last but not least - I've tried all options available, changing printer defaults, checking two-pass report (whatever that means), fonts, sizes, etc

Your humble and devoted Melmoth

Well that printing part was not made by me :hihi:
It is also why I can't fix bugs easily, it is just a component that I use

@melmoth:
Such things happened to me some time ago...
I was printing informations I extracted from a site using a myself-made-script.
Special characters were embedded in the source of web pages and they were not shown in AMC window but all my printers (real and pdf) 'kept' them and traslated in blanks.
Maybe this is a similar case? Would you like tho give a look to the web source coding page?

I'm not quite sure what you mean, if you're talking about problems with special characters - I don't have any, printing looked awkward all the time with all characters.

Finally I solved the problem with a crowbar and deleted everything (AMC, all files, entries...) and reinstalled it. Now printing works fine with Arial or Times New Roman (only). Don't know if that is because of the new installation or the use of this common fonts, but who cares...
