Report Designer

Post by ajwconsult »

Hello,

Can you please confirm if it is possible to link the movie database with an external report program which is very similar to the one with this program.

A well known one is Crystal Report.

Crystal Report has the ability to manipulate any of the data and allow grouping in any format.

Thanks

Hi,
It is not possible directly, but maybe you can export/import data.
For example, if Crystal Reports (or other) can import XML, CSV or tab-delimited data, such kind of data can be exported with Ant Movie Catalog.

Database Engine

Thank you for the reply....

Can you please confirm what database engine is used to collerate and store the information.....

I have looked at the providers website of the free reporting software, and assuming that this database software is hard coded within the program to export a link to the external report designer to allow the link to the internal data.

Therefore if there are any data source available to be able to link an alternative report designer to allow a bit more flexibility on what data can be manipulated with the stored data within the movie database.

Crystal Report have a very wide import and link solution for manipulating data to print reports and having this alternative would resolve a good few enquiries regarding reporting on your support forum.

Thanks again,

The database is own binary format, handled by the program, and the current report system used gets its data using a custom data source, i.e. data are provided by code rather than read from the database directly.
Alternatively, the catalog can be stored in an xml file. I guess that if Crystal Report has lots of import/link solutions as you say it could import from xml files once you have defined what it has to do with each field?
