How to change image location pointer.

Post by screach »

1. I would like to move movie.amc and all the images to another folder. However, the records still point to the old image folder. I was hoping you would have a faster way than having to 'select another picture' for each record. I have over 900 now and that would take a long time.

2. The amc program in program files/ant movie catalog/ is 3,184kb. There is also an amc program where the data is kept and it's 2,621kb. They are different size yet they both open the same data. What's the difference and which one should be used?

Thank you for the great progam,
john

1. you can save the catalog in XML (file -> save as, change format in the drop-down list), then open that XML file in a text editor and do a search/replace.
2. I do not see what you mean. What is that other one "where the data is kept"? The first one ("program") is "moviecatalog.exe"?

Question #1

I tried the xml update but still no change. I don't think i'm even using the xml file so i deleted it and the images still show up using the old folder. Only those images i did one at a time (Shift+F7) use the new folder.

Question #2

Forget this question, really dumb of me. MovieCatalog.exe is the program and Movie.amc if the data file.

:??: what do you mean by not using the XML file? you were supposed to do a search/replace of the old path to the new path by opening the catalog in a text editor, which is only possible if you save it to XML.

I did a search/replace on the data file (movie.amc) but ended up with a streaming error. I checked the folder replacement and it looked fine. Finding out where the error was would take too long.

So, I went back to the old folder and copied everything into the new folder to start fresh. I opened movie.amc file, in the new folder, and saved as movie.xml. I then opend movie.xml and did a replace on this file instead. I opened MovieCatalog.exe and opened the movie.xml file and then did a save as to movie.amc.

It worked. Thank you so much. I also figured out that the xml file could also be used as a backup as well. Thank goodness for backups.
