Feature: Import details from DVD?

Post by ArKay »

Hello,

would it be possible to add support for getting movie details from the DVD directly? It could read:

- running length
- bitrate?
- video format (PAL/NTSC)
- region
- audio languages and formats (Stereo, AC3)
- subtitle languages

So far I haven't found any program which would make it easy for me to add all of my >140 DVD's. It would take days if I had to insert all the data by hand. :(

comparison ant mc. / dvd profiler /collectorz.com /extrememm

DVD Profiler and Collectorz.com Movie Collector do this and more they also store "Easter Egg" info for DVDs and the "Special Features"!

unfortunately both programs suck in regard of Cover and Actor management.

GUI wise I like this one (Ant) best, although I miss features like "Price Finder" (DVD Profiler), HTML View (DVD Profiler, extr. Movie Manager, Collectorz.Com) and Actor Database (extreme MM)

I also like the way you can add DVDs in DVD Profiler, by just entering the UPC Nr. of the DVD. This guerantees that the EXACT info is added and you NEVER have to manually chose between any titles found via "open script" solutions.

All in all, Ant Movie Collector could be the best, right now there's no such thing out there because all have one or more "major" flaws.

For audio CDs there's one perfect piece of software: Music Label 2003
http://www.codeaero.com/musiclabel/
Pity it's for audio cds only.

For the UPC code, it is easy with DVD Profiler because they have the DVD list on their own server.

quite right, but websites like www.dvdempire.com also list the UPC code on the article pages... scripts could look for that number inside html pages, no?

just evaluating the 4 "major" dvd collection tools...

Is it possible to search by UPC code on this site ?

i don't think so, you can only search by title, actor etc.

generally dvdempire.com is a very good site for DVD info and covers since they do have hi Q front and back! pictures of most DVD and they also have detailed description of the Special DVD Features, even Screenshots of the movie are there...

all in all a very good site to retrieve detailed info for DVDs

If I knew how, I could write a DLL but so far I couldn't find anything useful.

Another option would be an import of the XML you can generate with DVD Profiler. I prefer Ant since it has a great IMDB support so it's easier to add missing information.

Are there some news in this area from the last post?

Please, are there some news in the area of getting information right from DVD disc?
The information is the one mentioned above:
- running length
- bitrate?
- video format (PAL/NTSC)
- region
- audio languages and formats (Stereo, AC3)
- subtitle languages
This would be a great feature!!!
Is there any workaround to achieve this info import?

For importing from the DVD itself and not for a website, you'll have to wait for version 3.5
I do not know when it will be finished but as soon as I add DVD/ogm/mkv importation I will release a "beta" version.

I think you can search by upc on that site; I believe Kollection was able to do it.
