I am looking for a replacement movie database program to replace Collectorz's Movie Collector. In AMC I do not see an import method to get my files from the MC database. I use the XML export format in MC finding it the most reliable.

I like AMC but can not find a currently available way to import the MC movies? I have looked through, and searched, the forum but found nothing. Is anyone working on, or contemplating this feature? I have almost 1700 titles in MC so not having this ability would be an eliminator.

Did you try export to CSV and then importing it to AMC ? If I remember correct it is supported by Pro version of Movie Collector.

I have the pro version and the only exports available are Text, HTML, XML, iPOD Notes, and Palm/Pocket PC (List Pro).

Collectorz's feature list says "Export to Text (e.g. CSV), for using your data in other programs like Excel ", so text export should be the correct choice I guess. Maybe there are some options for changing layout of text output. If it saves every movie to a new line and data fields are separated by a specific character in this line, it should work for CSV import on AMC. Else, or if you are not sure about it, please post (or sent via private message) a short, exported sample catalog file (just 3 or 4 movies) in text format.

I realize that this is a year after the question was posted here about converting from Collectorz', but I just converted with the greatest of ease and wanted to add a note in case anyone was still having a problem.

In Collectorz I told it to export to text (in case you are not aware, CSV is simply a text file also) with comma (,) field separators and a "\n" as the line terminator.

I then ran AMC and told it to import "CSV text/Excel". This imports a text file like the one I exported from Collectorz. AMC will bring up a panel with all the fields in columns. The first line in the file is the Collectorz field name for each column (remember to uncheck this line so you don't import it).

You simply click on the blank column heading above each column and select what field that particular data goes in to.

It will even import one of the images you were using in Collectorz (not all of them, so I picked the Front Cover).

You can change the column header to a different field if you change your mind on one.

Once you are happy with it, click OK, and you now have a new AMC database.

The only field I'll have to manually enter for all of my videos is the Run Time. Collectorz exports it as a number and text ("102 mins") instead of just a number (102), so the import script couldn't handle it.

Other than not having a way to flag and group my videos by series name & series number I'm extremely happy!

I hope this will help someone else making the same move I did.

That could probably easily be solved by doing a search/replace in the CSV (either with a text editor or with Excel)

Or even more simple with AMC scripting. Easiest way would be import length to any free text field, then run a (very short) script on your catalog that deletes the "min", converts value to integer format and moves it to field length.
