Movie Catalog loses 1000 files

My movie catalog has over 1500 movies listed, and id 47,338 K in size. Upon upgrading tot he new version of Ant Movie Catalog (3.5.0.2), the program now only displays 499 of the files, instead of the full 1500. I have dome a complete erase of the files, a reinstallation (restoringg the catalog file from a backup made before the upgrade), and it still only shows the first 500 entries. What can I do to get the program to show all entries again?

I do not know what could cause that... The upgrade to latest format should be done without losing anything.
Try to save your catalog to XML with the old version of AMC, then open this file with the new version and save it back to ".amc", and use this tool to re-integrate pictures into the catalog: ftp://ftp2.antp.be/antp/software/amcimgimport2.zip

It would be interesting that I could see why it loses these movies, but I do not know if you can easily send me such large file. If you have a fast connection, can you upload the file to www.yousendit.com to send it to me?

Okay, will give it a try, don't know why 2 reinstalls of the new version continue to cause the problem.

I can certainly send the file up to yousendit.com (cable connection here) - just need the details of where to send it - you can Email me at johndmes@sbcglobal.net with them.

Because it is a bug in the program and/or in your catalog, not in the install :D

use forum@antp.be as recipient address ;)

Ya, I guess that would follow, wouldn't it? :)

Anyway, have sent it to site@antp.be and to forum@antp.be - hope to hear from you soon.

Oops

Went to reload Ant Movie Catalog and found that the only earlier version I had in an installable form was 3.4.3, which cannot read the 3.5.0 format (comes up as invalid header).

Looking on the site, I see that 3.5.0 is not archived - where can I get the 3.5.0 installer?

I thought that your backup catalog was in 3.4 format ? :??:

I uploaded to the "old" folder of my FTP a 3.5.0.0 install that I found in a backup that I made.

The site@antp.be address is blocked (too much spam on it), but the other one should work.

But I haven't received anything on it :??:

Was using 3.5.0.0 with no issues, did the upgrade to 3.5.0.2 and boom :(

Will resend to forum@antp.be again - dunno why it didn't get through.

Thanks for the old backup!

I got the file this time.

It seems that the picture of movie nr 444 is broken. But I really wonder why version 3.5.0.0 can load the file and not the 3.5.0.2. On my PC the 3.5.0.0 cannot load it either.
If you save the file to another name with version 3.5.0.0, and then try to load it with 3.5.0.2 does it work?

Expoorting/importing does not work, it only exports through entry 499 as either a CSV or a HTML (3.5.0.0 doesn't have XML as an option).

It appears as if 2/3 of the database is blocked - if it's due to the picture being broken, would it be possible to remove the picture from the file/resave/reload and have it come back?

Will give it a try, anyway..

UPDATE: Didn't work, and the new saved catalog file is 13,174 KB instead of 47,334 KB - it's as if Ant is simply throwing away the data past movie 449. It's weird.

But it displays the list correctly?
To save to XML, you have to use File -> Save As, and change the file format in the drop-down list.
I could try to fix the file using an hexadecimal editor to delete the "damaged" movie...

it displays the list in the new - new install up to 499 - this is getting more and more out of control, and the reinstall of 3.5.0.0 now also only displays through 499 as well - I'm now literally tearing my hair out, as I created the backup onto a separate hard drive just prior to installing 3.5.0.2 - and it was working fine before, in 3.5.0.0. We even used it updated for about 2 weeks before something blew - and whatever blew, blew in the backup too - this just does not make sense.

It seems that about 480KB of the file has been overwritten by something else (part of the file allocation table of the disk, or random memory contents).
Maybe a disk problem?
Is your disk formatted as FAT32 or NTFS?
I'll send you the corrected file, without movie 444 to 456 that have overwritten by something else and so that I had to remove.

Wierdness - do not understand how 40KB got overwrittten.

That file is stored on my main hard drive, NTFS formatted, WinXP SP1. Thaqt drive is checked DAILY for errors using ScanDisk, defragged weekly by Diskeeper.

Either way, after your gracious removal of the damaged data, the file works once again. Many thanks to you!
