I don't know, maybe it's automatic from the imdb site, but the script does display the french title instead of the original title

I'll see what I can do, but not sure what's the best solution yet. Keep localized results list and just pass the translated/original titles to different fields or use akas site, which always lists original title as results. Both have pros and cons (different results for users might lead to unpredictable results and it is worse if it comes to finding/fixing bugs e.g. it lists german results for me and users have no chance to switch to english "default" site anymore vs. original titles on akas site use non ASCII characters which you can't import without UTF8 support, so you have to address this in results list). Not sure if I'll find time before weekend if it needs bigger changes.

E.g. try title search for "Night Watch" on www.imdb.com and akas.imdb.com. For me only 'akas' site shows additional aka titles with russian characters, but not the localized 'www' site (which shows german title listing for me with few 'aka' titles, but no russian characters on aka titles). So you would have to handle or filter these somehow, I'd guess.

AMC does not support unicode. The only thing it can do is convert UTF8 to local character set, but it works only for characters which exist in local character set.

I saw that too, but did not find time to confirm for other movies. And if IMDB switches user country via IP detect or reading browser information or something else for akas.imdb.com site too, this might be different for other countries, e.g. for users from Russia it could show non-western european characters for original title.. I'd prefer to find a way to bypass detection for user's country and get the same results page somehow, but not sure if it's possible.

Is there any solution concerning the new localized imdb versions?

I did replace all www.imdb* with akas.imdb* in the IMDB script, this one worked well, except that my translate title field is messed up with a lot of "weird" characters, still no problem here but after I exported my db as Xml it gets me a lot of errors when I load it in Firefox.

I am open as well for any workarounds to fix this problem (as example clear the translated title fields completely, how could I do that?)
and I am not happy with the localized IMDB titles 'cause I prefer to get the original titles in the original title field.

There's no real solution to this, at least not following IMDB's FAQs. Default titles display for unregistered users is set based on geo-location, only registered users for IMDB pro can change default settings. The akas site is the only site that lists information to all users in the same format, no matter where they are or if they are unregistered, unfortunately it lists a lot of titles UTF8 encoded with non-eurpean characters (like russian alphabet) too, which is imported as what you described as "weird" characters.

I do not know a better solution than using akas site and somehow filtering titles in some way (maybe using script's options settings to choose preferred language or something), if someone has a better idea or knows some undocumented URL switches that still make it possible to set default language, please let me know. I will spend some time looking into the script the next few days and adapt it to work best with akas site else. Just doesn't make sense to do a script that uses screenscraping for all possible localized versions of default site.

I did some googlin' and found this site (http://www.networkedmediatank.com/print ... ?tid=44892) where, see the last post at the bottom of the page, a guy did some scripting to get the original, or at least english title, of the movie...!?

Isn't it possible to add an option to the IMDB script to fetch the original title, which is displayed on every localized IMDB movie site under the translated title and use that one (or get it from the releaseinfo site, as example http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0469494/releaseinfo#akas (here the original title is also at the top of the page)?

On the first site an user had the idea to use this free vpn (http://hotspotshield.com/) to get the original names, I haven't tried it yet, but it'll be just a workaround.. (I just checked and noticed that you can use a proxy with our lovely ant movie catalog...)

It's weird: I'm in the process of fetching infos for tens or hundreds of movies and not getting any descriptions thus far. I see the problem has been discussed before.

edit: Now I noticed even the urls sometimes come messed up, continuing with some button html code! Should there be implemented some regexp to stop the url, if it gives "> at the end?

Your example imports correct for me, so first make sure you have latest script version 3.68 (see scripting window, bottom frame). Though your example doesn't have a description that could be exported, it seems to work for other movies.

Argh, I somehow thought the latest AMC update included the latest IMDB script, but I mixed up the months/days (Sept. instead of Dec.)!!

I am unable to download trivia from IMDb. Values 3 and 4 do not work, whereas values 1 and 2 will download short trivia. However, this does not appear to work well either. Trivia imported looks like this:

- Five horses played the part of Secretariat.
