Template for dynamic web page view version 1.1

Post by bonienl »

For those unfamiliair with this template a short description.

This template allows publicing your movie database on a dynamic web page. Users viewing the web page can choose from different layout styles, colour schemes, sorting and search options to find the information needed or simply scroll through your information.

At design time it is easy to setup or change the layout of the page by modifying the appropriate layout XML file, you are encouraged to study the supplied layout files to make the most of it.

Keeping your web site up to date is as easy as keeping your database in XML format, no additional exports are required.

Version 1.1 includes the following changes and updates:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Drop-down menu with sorting options in thumbnail view and large image view
* Search function with selectable fields and category selection
* Support of multiple flags per cell
* New locale.xml file holding local translations (default English)
* Date format of XML database is specified in locale.xml
* Film titles starting with a number are grouped together under “#”
* Added new tags <rate> <flag> and <film> for layout files
* Added width attribute to set column width (does not work in MSIE)
* New “merge” helper function to concatenate strings and suppress ‘null’ when empty
* New film rating system (parental guidance) – this is disabled by default
* Corrected bug in search function causing sometimes not to display all results
* TOP3 of most favorite actors, directors and countries (adjustable) in popup function
* Duration display in popup function now expressed in years, weeks, days
* Several corrections and bug fixes

More information can be found in the readme.html file included in the zip package, which can be downloaded here

A demonstration page is available here to show the possibilities.

When I load your XML file directly in Mozilla it gives the following error:

Code: Select all

XML Parsing Error: not well-formed
Location: http://bobohq.gotdns.com/movies/Web/movies.xml
Line Number 70, Column 560: <Movie Number="65" Checked="False" Date="8-9-2008" Rating="5.2" OriginalTitle="Animal" ...
There is a "non-printable" character at position 560, best is too replace this with a space Once Mozilla is happy with the file it will display. Internet explorer does display your file despite the error it reports.

There was indeed a non-printable character there, but not visible with the naked eye.

If others get this too and can't find the character, have a look at the xml file using Notepad++ that will show you the character !!

Are you able to view the demo page? These are the same files as distributed in the zip file, but together with my own demo XML database.

Otherwise re-download the zip file and see if this makes any improvement.

Yes, I can view this page

I did, same error

it's probably something in the exported xml-file. but i can view it in your version 1 template.

It could be why i can't the alpha-order right in version 1

Error here, too!

I realized few moments ago that I was working with "old" version of this beauty.

So, I downloaded 1.1, and it doesn't work. Firefox 3.0.3 just gets stuck on "Loading movie database...", IE 7.0.5730.13 (did they really made so many builds?) gets stuck and displays:

Code: Select all

Line: 546
Char: 3
Error: Object required
Code: 0
URL: ..../movies.html
Version 1.0.2 (I think) works correctly with the same movies.xml file. V1.1 demo page renders correctly.

I could send you the offending movies.xml if you have time to investigate this.

Thanks!

Bonzi, I have sent you a PM.

I will work on a solution but have patience with me, like most of us there is too little time to do all.

Of course. One doesn't get this kind of response for exorbitantly expensive commercial products where one pays through one's nose for so called "24x7" support!

Thanks!

Hoi,

I downloaded your template, it looks very good. But I hava a problem. I don't have the title bar: Rating, Title,... where you can click for the order. Is there some file to modify ?

Also the heater-functions doesn't work too... No action :(

A third thing: how can I adjust the size of the images ? It's too big for me...

Can you tell me what I did wrong ?

thanks,
